On this page you'll find the various celebrations associated with Holy Week and Easter in 2024, for you to re-visit or to use in at home if you couldn't be in church with us. As with all services recorded at Christ Church, the recordings will be made live during the various services, so some congregational and background noise will be audible, and your volume levels may need to be adjusted.
Several of the services listed below were recorded throughout Holy Week, and included on this page as soon as they have been edited - usually within a day or so of each service.
Celebrate Holy Week and Easter at Christ Church!!
Eucharist was celebrated at 7am, and then at 7pm the Stations of the Cross was celebrated. At Christ Church, images of the fifteeen Stations are displayed in the Side Chapel and are always available to use for personal prayer or meditation. The Stations of the Cross Readings and Meditations are a special part of Holy Week, particularly on Easter Monday - but if you were unable to be at this service or would like to re-visit the mediatations you can use them at home as part of this Holy Week.
* This recording (44:19) is of the beautiful Tenebrae service, which reminds us that Christ remains the Light of the World and that God says 'I will never leave you nor forsake you'. .
(please note that owing to a technical difficulty the volume in the last 10 minutes of Fr Lankiri's sermon was distorted - it was audible but the volume varied, seemingly at random... the recording was amended to cover this technical problem and the overall length of the recording was reduced as a result - apologies!)
We recall the last supper and follow Jesus' command to wash one another's feet. Following the celebration of the Eucharist, the Altar was stripped and church slowly darkened for the Easter Vigil. This recording (57:00) is of the evening Eucharist..
The Way of the Cross - We gathered at 10.30am at St Mary's Basilica as part of the Easter Procession through Geelong streets, finishing at Market Square, pausing for readings several times during the walk. At the conclusion of the Procession we returned to Christ Church for a Eucharist service and the Veneration of the Cross.(1:06:35)
This service began in darkness and was gradually illuminated by kindling new fire, as we celebrated Christ's Resurrection with the first Eucharist of Easter.
